About the Stoughton Baptist Church
Our Beginnings:
A Commitment to Faith
At Stoughton Baptist Church, our story began humbly in March of 1968 with a series of Bible studies held in the home of Erling and Mary Linnerud. As our faith community grew, so did our need for a dedicated place of worship. By May of that same year, we were blessed to purchase the former Burritt School, located at the corner of County Highway B and Williams Drive.
After some clean-up and a little remodeling, we held our first Sunday Morning Services in September 1968, officially organizing Stoughton Baptist Church on January 12, 1969, with a charter signed by 43 devoted members.
Growing Together:
Expanding Our Church
Over the years, Stoughton Baptist Church has undergone significant changes. We remodeled and expanded our facility from the old Burritt School, adding several new structures that made it easier to house the growing congregation. We also acquired adjacent properties and a ranch-style house, which now serves as our parsonage.
The church and parsonage still sit on the corner of County Highway B and Williams Drive in Stoughton and serve as the meeting place for Stoughton Baptist Church.
Our Leadership:
Pastors Through the Years
Our church has been guided by a total of six dedicated pastors. George Cable was our first pastor, serving from 1968 to 1975, followed by Charles Mellring (1975-1977), Frank Moore (1978-1983), Ron Prater (1984-1988), Phillip Mikkelson (1990-2007), and currently, Mark Weiss, who has been leading us since 2008. Each pastor has contributed to the growth and spiritual guidance of our congregation, helping to strengthen our collective faith.
Looking Forward:
Continuing Our Mission
As we reflect on our history, we are filled with gratitude and excitement for the future. Our commitment remains strong in carrying out our Lord’s “Great Commission” of winning souls, baptizing the saved, and teaching the Word of God to men, women, and children.
We are deeply thankful for the unwavering dedication of our members who have stood by our pastors and church staff, helping to make Stoughton Baptist Church what it is today. Together, we look forward to more opportunities to serve and grow with our community.
